The new Macau Central Library will not be located at the Old Court Building in Avenida da Praia Grande as previously planned, TDM Radio reported.
The new location for the future library or the future use of the court building was not yet revealed.
Since first announced some 15 years ago, the central library project received pushback due to the projected MOP900 million (US$112.7 million) cost for reconverting the historical building into the new intended purposes.
In 2018 MAA Marreiros Architectural Atelier Ltd was also awarded a MOP18.68 million public contract to re-design the new Macau Central Library.
The project is expected to be refined after the new Urban Master Plan for the Macau SAR is established, with the guideline document to be revealed for public consultation on September 4.
The radio broadcaster also indicated that authorities have decided to put aside plans to develop new court and legal administration buildings on the reclaimed New Area Zone B of the MGM Macau hotel, opting instead to develop them in areas near the Court of First Instance building in Nam Vam Lake, which will also be expanded.
