The best new shows to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Max (HBO), and more

Christopher Meloni in Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5.
Virginia Sherwood/Peacock

The early weeks of April were dominated by genre shows including Black Mirror, The Bondsman, and Devil May Cry. This week, reality strikes back on the best new shows to stream, starting with Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5. Peacock saved this spinoff from getting the ax from NBC, but it hasn’t gone full TV-MA yet. It’s still basically the same series it was on network television.

Meanwhile, Apple TV+ has a pair of offbeat original series this month: Your Friends & Neighbors and Government Cheese. The former is a light-hearted crime series, while the latter is a little bizarre and goes to some strange places. But they’re both very entertaining and worthy of your time.

You can find these series and the rest of the best new shows to stream below. We update this list every Friday to keep you up to date on the most binge-worthy new additions.

When you’re done here, check out the best new movies to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best new shows on Max, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, and the best shows on Disney+.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, Disney+, Paramount+, Peacock, and Apple TV+ all have one thing in common: They’re more expensive than they used to be. We can live with higher rates as long as new shows keep coming, but it’s always a good idea to consider signing up for the ad-supported tiers, which are worth it if you can sit through a few commercials.

Someone is out for revenge on Senior Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) in Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5. Considering how long Meloni has been with the franchise, the line of suspects starts outside and goes around the block. Season 5 picks up with Stabler once again undercover on behalf of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.

While Stabler tries to complete that case, his son, Eli (Nicky Torchia), is following in his footsteps as both a police officer and a young father. Eli and his girlfriend are also living with Stabler, which only makes things even more fraught. Longtime Law & Order fans will also get to see another reunion between Stabler and his former partner, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

If Amanda Seyfried wasn’t already a star, Long Bright River would have been her star-making turn. It may even earn her an Emmy Award this fall. Seyfried plays Mickey Fitzpatrick, a single mother and police officer who is the first to realize that the deaths of local female sex workers and addicts isn’t a mere coincidence. There’s a serial killer targeting these women, and Mickey’s superiors on the police would rather look the other way.

Mickey has a personal stake in this because her sister, Kacey (Ashleigh Cummings), not only fits the profile of the victims, she’s gone missing as well. In order to find a killer — and hopefully save Kacey — Mickey turns to her former partner, Truman Dawes (Nicholas Pinnock), to help her cut through the red tape of the investigation. However, Mickey’s inability to trust may put both of their lives in danger.

Rather than let his family slip into economic discomfort, Coop discovers he has a talent for stealing from their affluent neighbors.

One of those neighbors is Samantha “Sam” Levitt (Olivia Munn), the best friend of Coop’s ex-wife, Mel (Amanda Peet). Sam and Coop have casual sexual flings on the side even though she wants more out of the relationship. Government Cheese may be one of the most surreal TV series of 2025. But it starts in a real place as Hampton Chambers (David Oyelowo) is released from jail in 1969, and he’s eager to start over with his family. However, his family, including his wife, Astoria (Simone Missick), and their sons, Einstein (Evan Ellison) and Harrison (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), are less than happy to see him.

In his absence, Astoria and the boys managed to survive without Hampton, and there’s no place for him in their new dynamic. It’s going to take a little divine intervention to change things between them, and that’s where the show starts getting weird. Is Hampton experiencing God’s will? Or is he losing his mind?

Seth Rogen has a lot of experience dealing with the craziness of Hollywood studios and the industry’s most ridiculous executives. He’s bringing all of that experience to bear in Apple TV+’s new comedy, The Studio. Rogen is stepping into the role of Matt Remick, the man who has been tasked with leading Continental Studios out of a long dry spell.

Much like Entourage, The Studio features celebrity guest stars spoofing themselves, including Bryan Cranston, Charlize Theron, Paul Dano, and Martin Scorsese. Matt’s actually a pretty good guy with aspirations of using his newfound power to make great movies. He just needs to keep his stars happy and the other studio executives from breathing down his neck.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo headlines Good American Family, a miniseries that’s based on the stranger than fiction story about the adoption of Natalia Grace (Imogen Faith Reid), a young girl who was born with dwarfism. Kristine (Pompeo) and her husband, Michael Barnett (Mark Duplass), adopted Natalia and subsequently abandoned her.

To justify their decision, the Barnetts falsely claimed that Natalia was exhibiting psychotic behavior and that she was actually an adult pretending to be a child. If that sounds like a lift from the 2009 movie Orphan, it probably was. But Natalia’s story doesn’t end there, and it only gets stranger.

There was a Devil May Cry anime nearly two decades ago, but Netflix’s revival is essentially a reboot of the classic Capcom action video game franchise. Former Power Rangers actor Johnny Yong Bosch lends his voice to Dante, the show’s nearly superhuman demon hunter.

Confidence is not one of Dante’s problems, but he may be over his head this time. A demon known as White Rabbit (Hoon Lee) plans to invade the Earth with an army of demons. Meanwhile, Dante is also being hunted by DARKCOM, a group of mercenaries who have been hired to bring him in at all costs.

This season, The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) faces an interesting dilemma with his new companion, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu). Something powerful is keeping the Doctor from returning Belinda to her life on Earth. Then, Blaine inevitably tries to recreate their feats with some guidance. It’s probably a bad idea to do the same thing, hence the name of the show.

It would misstate the facts to say that Happy Face is based on true story. There is a Happy Face serial killer, Keith Hunter Jesperson (Dennis Quaid), and he does have a daughter named Melissa Moore (Annaleigh Ashford), who worked as a makeup artist. But that’s about the extent “true” that you’re going to find in this true crime story. The show veers off pretty wildly from reality after that.

After an imprisoned Keith reaches out to Melissa’s boss, TV talk show host Dr. Greg (David Harewood), Melissa is forced to publicly admit that she’s the daughter of a serial killer. Keith even promises to reveal more about one of his unsolved killings, but only to his daughter. The revelation of Melissa’s family history is going to have an adverse effect on her own family, including her husband, Ben (James Wolk), and their kids. Especially when Keith positions himself to keep Melissa in his orbit, whether she likes it or not.

Last season on The Righteous Gemstones, the titular family celebrated one of their most triumphant moments together. For the fourth and final season, Eli (John Goodman) is kind of checked out, and his adult children  — Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin (Adam DeVine), are all jockeying for position to inherit his mega-church empire. The Gemstones may not be united, but they may have to come together again, because there are storm clouds heading in their particular direction. And almost all of the Gemstones have a gift for making enemies who would just love to bring them down.

When he’s not busy editing and writing, you can find him tending to his meticulously planned content schedule or dreaming up new ways to get more eyeballs to the site.

Jason’s love for cinema started when he was 10 years old. Saddled with a nasty cold, he was forced to stay home from school for a full week. To pass the time, he watched a marathon of classic Alfred Hitchcock films on Cinemax and the rest is history. He furthered his film education by raiding used bookstores to read dusty old film criticism volumes and salacious movie star biographies. His real education included studying at Whitman College and then Syracuse University, where he won a student Emmy for producing a truly terrible television series.

His career began at Marvel Entertainment, where he worked in the Digital Products department, and then DC Comics, where he worked in publishing and content strategy. He then worked at Warner Bros. and Screen Rant.

Jason currently resides in Seattle but has yet to appear in a Cameron Crowe movie. He loves hot coffee with cream and sugar, video games, bread, napping, and movies (duh), but not necessarily in that order. His favorite movies are The Thing, All About Eve, The Ice Storm, Rear Window, Heat, The Cranes are Flying, Belle de Jour, Showgirls, and Clue. He thinks Mad Men is genius, still watches Seinfeld twice a week, and likes listening to shoegaze music, podcasts, and Lana Del Rey. If you see him on the street, please, for the love of God, do not engage in conversation with him.

The best shows on Disney+ right now (March 2025)
Charlie Cox in Daredevil: Born Again.

We've waited a long time for Daredevil: Born Again to arrive on Disney+, and now it's here. The follow-up to Marvel's Daredevil is already one of the biggest Marvel shows to hit the streamer. And the good news is that season 2 is currently in production for a premiere in 2026. That should make the wait between seasons a lot more bearable.
Unfortunately, Disney+'s lineup of shows is still really thin and there aren't a lot of other options to choose from in March. The only thing that stands out besides Born Again is the new documentary series, David Blaine Do Not Attempt, which really feels like it should have a colon in the title. That show will arrive on Disney+ on March 24. In the meantime, you can check out the rest of the best shows on Disney+ below.
Looking for some more guidance on how to make the most of your streaming service subscriptions? We have also compiled guides to the best movies on Disney+, the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Amazon Prime, and the best shows on Hulu. Don't forget to check out the guide for the best new shows to stream this week.

If you're not already subscribed, the Disney Bundle is worth considering. With it, you get Disney+, ESPN+, and the ad-supported Hulu plan, making it an impressive value for the price. You'll enjoy new Disney content, live sports coverage, and Hulu's various originals.
