In the world of PC gaming, Macs are hardly ever discussed. This is because, for the longest time, Macs were just not built for gaming and had a pitiful library of options compared to Windows, and even the best iPhone and best Android games. That time has come to an end and Macs are now capable of running tons of amazing titles, though not everything.
Since you do need to be a little careful finding games that will run on Mac, we tested out games big and small to see which ones not only work, but which are the most fun to play in 2025.
The best Mac games
Gone are the days when the best options for games on your Mac were Solitaire and Minesweeper. In 2025, tons of AAA games and amazing indies are all playable on your Mac, and more and more upcoming video games will support the platform in the future. We have a ton of great games we can’t wait to talk about, but let’s break down some top picks before we get into the weeds on each one.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut
Crusader Kings III
The Sims 4
There are a lot of great games like The Sims now, but The Sims 4 is still the gold standard and best one on the Mac. Years after launch it has gone completely free-to-play and is even better now than ever. While all the many, many expansions still cost money to purchase, you can still get dozens of hours of fun with the base game as you live out your dream life however you see fit.
Baldur's Gate 3
What is perhaps the best game of 2023 may not have hit Xbox consoles when it launched, but for once, Mac players weren’t left out in the cold. This is a master class in CRPGs, with hundreds of hours of story that dynamically adapts to not only every choice and action you take, but even what character or race you start as. Based on the tabletop experience, the game is somehow just as flexible as talking to a real-life dungeon master. Odds are, if you think something should work in Baldur’s Gate 3, it will. Play alone or in co-op to really experience that full campaign experience.
Stardew Valley
Portal 2
Sid Meier's Civilization VI
Path of Exile
Path of Exile is an online action RPG set in a dark fantasy realm that takes everything you love about Diablo 2 and expands upon it. The story here is servicable, but all that matters is the gameplay look. Pick between the Witch, Shadow, Ranger, Marauder, Duelist, Templar — each of which has its own movesets, strengths, and weaknesses. Combining skills, armor, and weapons, you can carefully customize your character to suit your preferred playstyle. While exploring the world through the main storyline is plenty engaging, you can always take part in some competitive online player versus player (PvP) gaming. Developer Grinding Gear Games has a strict mission in terms of its free-to-play world, too — no pay-to-win options here, so don’t fear jumping in. Eventually, you will even be able to move on to Path of Exile 2 when that fully releases.
Hades
Minecraft
Lies of P
Cuphead
The Witness
The Elder Scrolls Online
Final Fantasy XIV Online
Fortnite
Dead Cells
RuneScape
If you want to tickle your nostalgia, the classic browser game Runescape is still going strong. You can relive the glory days with Old School Runescape or see how far things have come with the newest version, but both MMORPGs are available for free on Steam. Monthly subscribers will gain access to a larger world and more skills, but free users can still get up to plenty of mischief in the massive world of Gielinor. Whether you want to become a billionaire on the Grand Exchange or team up for some high-stakes PvP, the options at your disposal are almost limitless. Old School RuneScape is a perennial favorite, while the upgrades made to RuneScape 3 are quickly winning over legions of new fans.
