“Now therefore write for yourself this Song.” (D’varim 31:19)
About Our Soferet, Linda Coppleson
We are proud to have Linda Coppleson as our scribe, or soferet. Linda was already an accomplished Jewish educator, artist, and calligrapher when she began the journey to become a Torah scribe about 10 years ago. Her intensive training included learning some 4,000 rules, from the cut of the quills to the formation of the letters, and deeply studying Jewish text. She is now one of a small group of women Torah scribes (sofrot) around the world—most of whom had to overcome numerous obstacles to achieve their goal. Linda contributed to the writing of the first Sefer Torah commissioned entirely for sofrot, and she has repaired and restored many Sifrei Torah. She continues to write mezuzot and megillot and to design and illuminate ketubot. She teaches Tanach (Bible) at Golda Och Academy, a Solomon Schechter day school in West Orange, New Jersey.
