The International Boundaries Research Unit works to minimise conflict associated with international boundaries on land and at sea around the world.
Our work is interdisciplinary in approach and global in scope, integrating theory and practice in order to provide: practical expertise in boundary-making, border management and territorial dispute resolution; and academic leadership in the study of boundaries and their impact on international relations and borderland development.
Since its foundation in 1989 IBRU has built up an international reputation as a leading source of information and expertise on boundary and territorial issues worldwide. This website provides information on IBRU's activities and services, including research and consultancy, training workshops, conferences and publications. The site also includes a searchable boundary news archive, a publications download service, and links to other boundary-related websites and online resources.
IBRU is part of the Politics-State-Space research cluster in the Geography Department at Durham University.
