Nagorno Karabakh prime minister: We need to have at least 300,000 population
In order to make our republic use land, water and other resources, we need to have at least 300,000 people. And the question how to achieve it must be asked from all governing bodies in Nagorno Karabakh, NKR Prime Minister Anushavan Danielyan is quoted by a REGNUM correspondent in Stepanakert as saying.
At that he noted that the governmental initiative to increase birth-rate and possession of many children provided good results. Today, 2,200-2,300 babies are born in Nagorno Karabakh annually. To compare, in 1999 the number of births was 1,500. Till 2000, Nagorno Karabakh had negative showings of population growth trate, so, more people left the republic than came. Since 2002, we have seen 35-37% positive mechanical growth. As a result, we have a positive mechanical and natural growth, the premier said.
According to official data, Nagorno Karabakh population is 138,000 people today.
