Stroger Unveils 2007 Executive Budget Recommendation
Cook
County Board President Todd H. Stroger unveiled his
2007 Executive Budget Recommendation on Tuesday, January
16, 2007. The $3 billion dollar budget includes no new
taxes, eliminates non-essential programs and significantly
reduces staffing levels.

Shakman
Consent Judgment Supplemental Order and Public Notice
Cook
County has recently received preliminary court approval
to enter into a Supplemental Relief Order (“SRO”)
in the Shakman class action lawsuit. The SRO would add
various reporting and enforcement provisions and the
development of a new hiring plan to ensure that the
hiring of non-exempt positions is accomplished without
conditioning, basing or affecting any term or aspect
of governmental employment upon or because of any political
reason or factor. Public notice of the proposed settlement
of the Shakman class action lawsuit and settlement approval
hearing is posted.

No
Tax Increase To Reduce Budget Shortfall, says Stroger
County
Board President Todd Stroger has announced that the
majority of departments under his authority have succeeded
in cutting their budgets by 17% to address a deficit
of $500 million. Stroger also reaffirmed his vow not
to raise taxes to balance the 2007 budget, in urging
other offices to decrease the cost of doing business,
as well.

Stroger,
Quigley Join in Strengthening Office of Inspector General
Fulfilling
one of his first campaign promises, President Todd H.
Stroger joined Commissioner Mike Quigley (D-10), at
the December 6, 2006 County Board Meeting, to unveil
amendments to the Inspector General Ordinance of Cook
County.
The
amendments will allow the Office of the Independent
Inspector General (OIIG) to have complete autonomy and
full authority to investigate, make determinations,
and take corrective action.

Stroger
Sworn In as 34th County Board President
Monday, December 4, 2006, Todd H. Stroger was sworn
in as the 34th President of the Cook County Board of
Commissioners. Click

All seventeen County Board Commissioners were also sworn
in for their four-year terms, including the newly seated
William M. Beavers, 4th District and Timothy O. Schneider,
15th District.
Also sworn in was new Board of Review Commissioner Brendan
F. Houlihan and, on Friday, Sheriff Thomas Dart.

October
1, 2006, the County launched the newly codified County
