SURAT: Diamond City Surat was conferred with two awards constituted by Annual Survey of India's City-Systems (ASICS) at a function held in New Delhi on Thursday.
After a survey of top Indian cities, two awards - quality of life and quality of city systems - were awarded to Surat as the best urban city this year.
The award was accepted by commissioner at Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Manoj Das along with mayor Raju Desai and principal secretary I P Gautam accepted the awards.
Das said, "Surat has been adjudged as the best city in quality of life and quality of city system. The parameters included mobility, water supply network, cleanliness, public amenities, pollution control, greenery, safety and easy processes of getting word done at the corporation."
Pune in Maharastra stood second in the quality of life category where as Ahmedabad was placed third. In the category of quality of city systems, Ahmedabad was second, while Chennai was placed third. The award was given to winners by chairman emeritus, Infosys Ltd, Narayan Murthy.
