Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

- Template:Myprefs (currently a redirect to Template:Preferences) → Template:Preferences (move · discuss) – "Myprefs" made sense with the original wording, which was replaced in Special:Diff/525028556 after Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 105#Small change to the top right menu. Nowadays, "Preferences" is a much better name for the template. Silent consensus at Template talk:Myprefs#Rename to Template:Preferences? —andrybak (talk) 13:47, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

- Technically yes, and I don't mind it per se, but I'm not a page mover, so I'd have to move subpages one-by-one, which is selfishly bothersome, but, most importantly, error-prone. —andrybak (talk) 13:54, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly it would probably be a decent idea to grant move-subpages to template editor ... * Pppery * it has begun... 13:59, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Pppery configuration changes like this may need community consensus. But I would support the idea if a discussion is opened. – robertsky (talk) 16:51, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, agreed a formal consensus was needed and RMTR is the wrong venue for it. But was just posting an idea. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:54, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

- Sedoreoviridae → Reovirales (move · discuss) – Someone else messed this up so I'll explain. Reoviruses were previously the sole family (Reoviridae) in the order Reovirales.(search "reoviridae" across all releases then click "view" on 2020) The Reoviridae family was abolished[1] and reoviruses were promoted to the rank of order (Reovirales) since the order bears the same name as the former family. At the same time, the two subfamilies in Reoviridae (Sedoreovirinae and Spinareovirinae) were promoted to the rank of family (same names but -viridae instead of -virinae).[2][3] The article "Reoviridae" should have been moved to "Reovirales", but another user mistakenly moved it to "Sedoreoviridae",[4] which caused a bit of a mess. So that's why I am here. I'm not exactly sure if "Sedoreoviridae" should be moved directly to "Reovirales" or if it should be moved back to "Reoviridae" then "Reoviridae" moved to "Reovirales"; someone more experienced with moves may know and could help out here. The following request is part of this request. Velayinosu (talk) 02:15, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Sedoreovirinae (currently a redirect to Sedoreoviridae) → Sedoreoviridae (move · discuss) – See above. Velayinosu (talk) 02:15, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Gutian people (currently a redirect to Gutians) → Gutians (move · discuss) – "Gutians" is the more concise and commonly used form, consistent with naming conventions for ancient peoples (e.g., Hittites, Elamites, Sumerians). "Gutian people" is redundant and less natural. Karkafs Desiderium (talk) 18:06, 20 April 2025 (UTC) Karkafs Desiderium (talk) 18:06, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

- @Amakuru: What is the objection here? 162 etc. (talk) 17:45, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Moving to less concise and more long-winded disambiguators is not helpful for readers. The current ones are great and do the job, and the Nickelodeon one has been discussed before. I'd object to all of the above if I could, because clearly the bold moves by Intrisit were beneficial for the project, but I guess they were undiscussed so I can't do that. conjunctionsprepositions? English hard. such as "as", so the current capitalization looks to be correct. ASUKITE 15:16, 19 April 2025 (UTC) - nope. it's correct as is Create a template (talk) 01:27, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

- Rugby World Cup → Men's Rugby World Cup (currently a redirect back to Rugby World Cup) (move · discuss) – article is only about Men's Rugby World Cup, not Rugby World Cup in general Uxue Uriarte (talk) 21:44, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Previously discussed in 2023, with the consensus being "Not moved". 162 etc. (talk) 06:29, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Per World Rugby’s official terminology, the correct name for this tournament is “Men's Rugby World Cup.” In 2023, World Rugby confirmed a return to gender-specific titles for clarity and parity, officially referring to the events as “Men’s Rugby World Cup” and “Women’s Rugby World Cup.” This move aligns with how the women's tournament is already titled on Wikipedia and ensures consistency with the sport’s governing body. Uxue Uriarte (talk) 17:20, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- The article has prior RM history, and therefore is ineligible for WP:RMT. See WP:PCM. 162 etc. (talk) 18:07, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

- Rachele Mussolini → Rachele Guidi (currently a redirect back to Rachele Mussolini) (move · discuss) – since she's incorrectly called as Rachele Mussolini in the English-speaking world, and this being an encyclopedia, it's wrong to keep the title "Rachele Mussolini" JacktheBrown (talk) 17:29, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

- Since reliable Italian sources write the CORRECT surname (Italian wives, unlike American wives, keep their own surnames and don't take their husband's), it makes much more sense to follow Italian reliable sources (example: la Repubblica) for this page, as for many articles about Italian politicians; why not do it in this article as well? - There's nothing stopping you from improving the article. I note that you've made several edits to it already. With that in mind, unless you can demonstrate that the WP:COMMONNAME is "Rachele Guidi", there is no reason to move the article. 162 etc. (talk) 01:33, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
