The next language community meeting is coming up next week, on November 29th, at 16:00 UTC (Zonestamp! For your timezone <https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1732896000>). This participant-driven meeting will be organized by the Wikimedia Foundation’s Language Product Localization team and the Language Diversity Hub. There will be presentations on topics like developing language keyboards, the creation of the Moore Wikipedia, and the language support track at Wiki Indaba. We will also have members from the Wayuunaiki community joining us to share their experiences with the Incubator and as a new community within our movement. This meeting will have a Spanish interpretation.

English Wikinews will upgrade its license to CC-BY-4.0 - will you join us? / Anglické Wikinews aktualizují svou licenci na CC-BY-4.0 - připojíte se k nám?

English Wikinews has finally completed the discussions about a license upgrade and will upgrade to CC-BY-4.0, effective for all edits made from December 16, 2024. You can read about it at en:Wikinews:2024 Copyright license upgrade.

All Wikinews projects manage their processes internally and independently of English Wikinews, but on English Wikinews, we hope that you will also change your license so we can continue to share articles across the different versions of Wikinews.

Arabic Wikinews already upgraded in August 2024, but they chose CC-BY-SA-4.0 (ShareAlike). We know that other Wikinews projects would also like to change.

To complete the change, each Wikinews project needs to file a request on Phabricator. We made one for English Wikinews at Phab:T381421.

If your wiki have already decided to change the license you can also make a request or we can try to add your wiki to the request so the changes can take place at the same time.

If your wiki have not yet decided it is still possible to change the license. But your wiki needs to have a discussion about it.

To coordinate the license change, we need to know if your wiki has already decided or has an existing vote, so please either leave a message here with a link to the vote/result (and ping me please) or add it directly at en:Wikinews:2024_Copyright_license_upgrade/other-Wikinews#Results_all_Wikinews_projects. Even if the result is that you will not upgrade, we would really appreciate knowing.

Hlasování o změně licence na CC-BY-4.0

Jak bylo napsáno dříve, anglické Wikinews a některé další Wikinews nyní změnily licenci. Váš wiki nereagoval, takže zde zahajuji hlasování, ve kterém navrhuji, abyste také aktualizovali licenci na CC-BY-4.0. Ocením jakoukoli pomoc, aby bylo zajištěno, že toto hlasování bude oznámeno na správných místech a že text bude přesně přeložen. Pokud jsou nějaké chyby, prosím, pomozte je opravit. Pokud má místní politika jiná pravidla než ta, která navrhuji, prosím, opravte to co nejdříve.

Vaše wiki bude brzy pouze pro čtení

Nadace Wikimedia přepne provoz mezi svými datovými centry. Tím se ujistíme, že Wikipedie a další wiki projekty zůstanou online i v případě katastrofy.

Veškerý provoz bude přepnut 19. března. Test bude zahájen v 14:00 UTC.

Kvůli jistým omezením v MediaWiki se musí bohužel v průběhu přepínání pozastavit všechny editace. Omlouváme se za tuto nepříjemnost a pracujeme na tom, abychom ji v budoucnu minimalizovali.

Na všech wiki se bude 30 minut před zahájením této operace zobrazovat banner. Tento banner zůstane zobrazen až do konce této operace.

Po krátký čas budete moci všechny wiki číst, ale nikoli editovat.

• Editace budou vypnuté nejvýše hodinu dne 19. března 2025 (středa).
• Pokud se v této době pokusíte editovat nebo změny uložit, zobrazí se vám chybové hlášení. Doufáme, že se v tomto období žádné editace neztratí, ale nemůžeme to zaručit. Pokud uvidíte chybové hlášení, počkejte prosím, dokud se vše nevrátí do normálu. Poté byste měli být schopni svou editaci uložit. Doporučujeme však, abyste si nejprve udělali kopii svých změn, jen pro jistotu.

Další důsledky:

• Úlohy na pozadí budou pomalejší a některé se mohou ztratit. Červené odkazy se mohou aktualizovat pomaleji než obvykle. Pokud založíte článek, který je již odkazován odjinud, zůstane odkaz červený déle, než je obvyklé. Některé dlouho běžící skripty budou muset být zastaveny.
• Předpokládáme, že nasazování nového kódu bude probíhat jako v běžném týdnu. V jednotlivých případech však může dojít k zamrazení kódu, pokud je operace následně vyžaduje.
• GitLab bude asi 90 minut nedostupný.

V případě nutnosti může být tento projekt odložen. Můžete si přečíst rozvrh na wikitech.wikimedia.org. Jakékoli změny budou oznámeny v rozvrhu.

Final proposed modifications to the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines and U4C Charter now posted

The proposed modifications to the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines and the U4C Charter are now on Meta-wiki for community notice in advance of the voting period. This final draft was developed from the previous two rounds of community review. Community members will be able to vote on these modifications starting on 17 April 2025. The vote will close on 1 May 2025, and results will be announced no later than 12 May 2025. The U4C election period, starting with a call for candidates, will open immediately following the announcement of the review results. More information will be posted on the wiki page for the election soon.

Hello everyone, I am excited to share news of an upcoming online event called Wikidata and Sister Projects celebrating the different ways Wikidata can be used to support or enhance with another Wikimedia project. The event takes place over 4 days between May 29 - June 1st, 2025.

We would like to invite speakers to present at this community event, to hear success stories, challenges, showcase tools or projects you may be working on, where Wikidata has been involved in Wikipedia, Commons, WikiSource and all other WM projects.
