New month: today is the birthday of Chopin and Ricardo Kanji, see my stories of today and yesterday, with dream music by the first and Bach played by the other. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:09, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- Kanji sounds more Japanese! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:39, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
- Are you interested in Monika Lundi, referencing and improving translation? Bastian's sweetheart. I added links and copied ills, but have no more time for her. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:42, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- She didn't last very long! I'll have a look later. Can I tempt you to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The European Destubathon? Even if you don't want prizes you're welcome to sign up and contribute like you would normally. Entries will be tipped into the Europe challenge and hopefully we can set 20 or 25,000 as the new target! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:17, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- Lundi just said something about her "Schatz" when he died, and now also died. I'm not happy about the rape allegation (another of my subjects, small world.) - Ask me again when I'm less busy, - I haven't had time to update the Europe challenge. We certainly destubbed Ferenc Rados ;) - Looking forward to Carmen's 150th "birthday" tomorrow, - the Met presented a version recorded in 2010 yesterday, related to the occasion. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:02, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Today: Carmen turns 150, as the main page and my story tell you. I chose a 1962 concert of the Habanera, - enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:06, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Updated the Europe list: less than 200 left! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:11, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
Edesio Alejandro died, - I managed the bio, but find no source for the long lists of films, which also has some abbreviations that tell me nothing, - help? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:39, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'll look later, forgot you said about Lundi! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:27, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! - On Ravel's birthday, we also think of a conductor and five more composers ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:48, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- I nominated Alejandro, but there are still films without ref. I have no idea where Cuban films would be listed but not IMDb (which is not regarded as reliable). Our List of Cuban films is no help, nor are the film articles. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:16, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, not had time today, yet another film AFD I was just editing. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:40, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- Understand. I found two lists now, - could you simply check if they look reliable to you? - No details needed. If you have one more minute, look for abbrevations unexplained (because I don't know what they stand for.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:09, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- Looks well-sourced?? Edesio Alejandro♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:12, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- now ;) - I commented out those - all documentaries - for which I didn't find a ref, but I think it should work as is, without them. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:54, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Great job! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:19, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. A German actor in film and TV is my next project (see my user page), but I'm out for the day, help welcome. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:57, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- Today Rossini's latest "sin", as the main page has --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:10, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Today I could have written five stories off the main page, and chose Sofia Gubaidulina. I find the TFA also interesting, and two DYK, and a birthday OTD. How about you? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:49, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- Looks really good, well done, could have been written by a Women in Red editor! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:51, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- If you mean the composer, that's an old work of many. Ceoil helped these days, and asked him about going for GA. The actor, sadly, fell off the RD lists, and it's too late for DYK. I'd try but vacation ... will probably let it go. - What do you think of the DYK nom for today's story, or the difference of what I would have liked to say (give her a place in time and places, point at Carmen as representative of what she could do well) and what's left on the main page: mainly years, no music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, I was going to say it looks like a GA, even a future FA perhaps. Well done all! So many articles to pick from! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:31, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, GA some day perhaps! - The actor appeared, afterall, after begging for two days ;) - Today: an opera, 100 years old OTD, on Bach's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Happy 340th Birthday Mr. Bach! You musical genius you! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:32, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- 300 years now, today: Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, BWV 1! We sang works for (mostly) double choir by Pachelbel, Johann Christoph Bach, Kuhnau/Bach, Gounod and Rheinberger! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:10, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
- Two RD stories to say bye to March --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:48, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- How many Bach works are GA or FA now? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:43, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- You know where to find it, - I have other things to do, and choir rehearsal. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:32, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- I thought you would have known without checking... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:39, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not a counter ;) - No change in FAs in two years, but many more GAs. Want to do a review? The open ones are on my user page. No rush, 3 other reviews are on. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:46, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Destubbing contest
[edit]It's great to see you have been able to firm up The European Destubathon for April. I now spend most of my editing time on reviewing and improving new articles. Many are stubs which could be raised to Start class with a few additions. For the contest, would it be permissible to destub new articles created during the month of April itself? I'm not interested in the prizes but this might help improve the quality of the articles created and may well provide additional incentives for newbies.
You may already have seen on the WiR talk page that I have suggested "Destubbing women stubs" could be presented as one the WiR events in April. If you agree, you might like to suggest how it should be presented.--Ipigott (talk) 09:02, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, appreciated. Yes, stubs can be created in April and expanded within the month if you're not competing for prizes. The issue is that we have over 760,000 existing European stubs and need a mechanism to reduce them. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:25, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Alexander Zakin.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Alexander Zakin.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 1234qwer1234qwer4 00:50, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Women in Green's May 2025 edit-a-thon
[edit]
Hello Dr. Blofeld:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in May 2025!
Running from May 1 to 31, 2025, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event – Wildcard Edition! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to any and all women and women's works during the event period. Want to improve an article about a women's rights activist? Go for it. An Olympian gold medallist? Absolutely. A famous painting by a woman? Yes! GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to receive a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Date ref format 11
[edit]I’m sorry, imagine you’re speaking to someone not very bright. What does date ref format 11 mean? Many thanks G Hildreth gazzard (talk) 11:48, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- LOL. It is only very minor, look at the date formatting, digits vs text. Pick one style only, just ensure the references are consistently formatted! Ref 11 has a different style. You're off to a great start! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:23, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Right! Thank you Hildreth gazzard (talk) 12:29, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
Question
[edit]By the way, how to count the "readable prose count that you've expanded it to"? Either I use XTools' Authorship (in which i get all of those numbers written beside the European rticles I have destubbed) or I manually count all of the total byte change from the last edit to my most recent edit from the article's 'View history' page? Because when I click the 'cur' or 'prev' in an article's history page, it only shows the changes, but not the total byte sum of changes. I have installed that 'Page size' interface from MediaWiki, and it gives only the total "Prose size (including all HTML code)". Chongkian (talk) 12:43, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- All you need to do is ensure that the article was under 1500 bytes of readable prose when you started. And then simply link a diff of your expansion and what the readable prose count is in your completed version. As long as it was under 1500 bytes and over in the end that's fine, though try to avoid tiny expansions and picking articles which are just under the requirement. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:52, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Georgia is on the same longitude as Saudi Arabia, I just don't consider it Europe. It's West Asia. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 04:38, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I have taken out Georgia. By the way, so it seems like this contest is not only just adding more content (more bytes) to make an article from stub-class to become start-class, but also to clean up whatever that has been written before, e.g. rewrite everything based on MoS, adding citations to every important fact written (like you said at least in every paragraph), standardization of writing style according to MoS etc. It seems there are more works to be done here. Chongkian (talk) 09:03, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, clean articles which are verifiable are so important I think, they make us look really good. I would rather a clean, basic starter article than a big bloated, poorly sourced article with inconsistent formatting! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:15, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Just no unsourced paragraphs and consistent formatting is all that is needed, if you got into the habit of that you should be fine and I could approve your articles faster. I appreciate the articles you expanded. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:00, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Euro Destubathon - doubt
[edit]Many football articles are already more than 1500 bytes but are rated stubs. But most of them don't have proper refs for DoB, etc. Can I add refs and change the rating using rater and add them to the list. I am not entering them for contest, though! Davidindia (talk) 22:22, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, say "- references added by Davidindia" though in the main list summary! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 04:00, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

- I wrote my story today and then found it's the person's funeral day. - I hated to see DYK for Johannes-Passion (Gubaidulina) today instead of Good Friday, but it seems also right in the context. - You began the article of the next, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:49, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- I finally managed to upload the pics I meant for Easter, see places. - Also finally, I managed a FAC, Easter Oratorio. I wanted that on the main page for Easter Sunday, but no, twice. [edit]Thanks for your email and reaching out about your latest project. I appreciate the thought and wish you tge best of luck with it. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Drilidae
[edit]
A tag has been placed on Category:Drilidae indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 07:05, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
It seems you didn't read my edit summary before reverting me
[edit]My edit summary: "Will explain on talk in a jiffy"[1], you reverted saying "if there's anything you dispute bring it up on the talk page", seemingly without even looking at Talk:Anti-Austrian_sentiment#Marie_Antoinette_and_WWI. Rsk6400 (talk) 09:10, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I hadn't seen a discussion, but I'm running a contest and all I could see is that he spent the time expanding a stub into a start class article and you completely reverted him. Seemed a bit extreme to me given that he provided sources and was acting in good faith. I don't know enough about it to judge who is right. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:18, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

European destubathon - up-rating a talkpage
[edit]Hi Dr. B! I've been reviewing articles with a Stub-class talkpage rating, while the article itself may or may not have a Stub template. Of these, I have come across several articles that don't have a Stub template on the article page, and don't need further expansion/improvement to be considered Start-class. In this scenario, I have uprated the talkpage (Start-class or better) but haven't added the article to the Destubathon page as I made no changes to the article itself. Now I'm wondering if this is considered "destubbing"? Should I be including these articles on the Destubathon list? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:15, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Examples: Ada of Holland, Margravine of Brandenburg and Ageltrude and Alexandra von Wolff-Stomersee. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:16, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Can you add one source or line or two to future ones you remove the tags from to constitute as an improvement? We can count them on the list then! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:10, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Okay; will do! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:29, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks Rosie, I appreciate it. Of course you could always go back to your roots for a bit too if you felt like it. ;-) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:37, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

- Hi Rosie. Even if you add a few sourced lines or reference some uncited material you can add it to the main list as an improvement. I want the list to really be a list of article improvements, just removing a tag, especially if there is unsourced material still remaining I don't think is ideal, though it is a destubbing. But removing a tag and helping sort them is always appreciated. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:42, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Settlements question
[edit]Hi Dr. Can I just ask a question for clarification please? I am considering having a run at the settlements but I noticed that one other competitor in it has listed a council as part of the entry. Do councils count as a settlement? I just ask because I didn't think it fit the criteria. Happy Easter to you too. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 17:47, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Councils don't count of course, I removed Yue's entries earlier, should be OK now. Happy Easter!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:04, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge
[edit]We have gone beyond 6000..... I'm not exactly sure how to make the sub page for 6000 to 7000. Can you jump in and help? Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge Moxy🍁 18:38, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
- Great, love the look and layout of that page, looks very organized. Reidgreg is the one doing the archiving, can you archive 5-6000 Reid? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:34, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Is there not a parent page for all these? The page Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge redirects to the UK Wikipedia:The 20,000 Challenge .....should the link Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge not go to Wikipedia:The 100,000 Challenge that has a listings of all the 10,000 challenges over one specific Wikiproject challenge page? Moxy🍁 20:00, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge page should probably be a dab page now, yes. It's just the 20,000 Challenge began as 10 for the UK before anybody else. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:02, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
- What if we made the page Wikipedia:The Challenge series fill it what is in my sandbox User:Moxy/sandbox and add a little blurb about the concept. Moxy🍁 15:32, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
